Let’s call a container’s contents ‘excitement’, first of all. Then let’s say that we are struggling to keep the latter in the former. Here’s why – BAT FOR LASHES won the Ivor for ‘Best Contemporary Song’ for ‘Daniel’. Natasha’s work has long deserved to be recognised (gong-ily) and after two mercury nominations in as many albums it seems like someone on a comittee finally has had some sense. We are absolutley delighted.
Another great happiness was watching JOHNNY MARR pick up his Ivor Inspiration Award. I’m not going to say much about this. The Ivors refused our request to rename this award the Unassuming-godlike-guitar-wizard-idol-pioneer-pan-generational-icon-only-23-when-the-smiths-disbanded-what-an-amazing-feat-is-that-in-itself-telecaster-or-rickenbacker-doesn’t-matter-give-him-a-piece-of-string-attached-to-a-broomstick-and-you’ll-end-up-moved-mancunian-hero award. So I suppose ‘Inspiration’ will do.
Our sympathies go to PATCH WILLIAM, NINA WOODFORD and FRASER T SMITH for coming away awardless, however ne’er a truer word spoke than to say that in the case of the Ivors, a nomination in itself is an accolade worthy of celebration.
For your aural pleasure, some musical highlights of the nominees in playlist form. HERE.
